Annak idején nekifogtam két Coelho könyvnek is, sok-sok évvel ezelőtt, amikor mindenhol az ő neve jött az emberrel szemben, de arra emlékszem, hogy egyik sem fogott meg, ezért inkább elfogadtam, hogy az általa képviselt irodalmi vonal nem nekem való. Később, amikor a Facebook szinte kizárólag az ő “okosságait” ontotta, még jobban megerősödött bennem az érzés, hogy ezek a regények bizonyára ponyva-kategóriások, ezért jó döntés volt messzire kerülni tőlük.
Eszembe sem jutott többet Coelho addig, amíg néhány hete utalást nem találtam Az alkimista című regényére Brené Brown egyik könyvében, melyben úgy nyilatkozik róla az író, hogy Coelho-nak ezt az írását annyira jelentősnek találja, hogy minden évben újraolvassa. Íme a modernkori “influencerek” ereje! A következő utamon Az alkimistát haza is hoztam a könyvtárból majd egy szuszra ki is olvastam. Egyrészt lenyűgözött ennek a kiadásnak a gyönyörűsége, másrészt tényleg nem hosszú olvasmány, ráadásul az író fogalmazásmódja meglehetősen egyszerű, a cselekmény egysíkú, kevés a szereplő, szóval egyszerű kis történetről van szó, melybe azonban mindenki annyi réteget tud beleolvasni, amennyit szeretne. Talán ebben rejlik Az alkimista varázslata, mely lehetővé tette azt, hogy elképzelhetetlen rekordmennyiségű példányt eladjanak belőle világszerte.
Arra gondoltam, hogy olvasás közben kiírom a kedvenc idézeteimet a könyvből és így állítok emléket annak, hogy immár én is elolvastam egy Coelho-regényt. Nem állok sorban a többiért a könyvtárban, de valóban nem bántam meg, hogy időt szántam erre az egyre. Tanulságos kis történet. Az idézetek sajnos angol nyelven vannak, mert így olvastam a könyvet is, de ha a kedvenceidre ismersz közöttük, akkor kérlek hozzászólásban írd meg nekünk a magyar fordítású megfelelőjét.
